Pet Blood Bank

We are pleased to support the life-saving work of the Pet Blood Bank, who provide canine blood products to practices all over the country in the event of an emergency.

At Blue House we hold blood donor sessions 3-4 times per year.

We are always on the lookout for new doggy donors who fit the following criteria to donate blood to Pet Blood Bank! Suitable donors:

•    Are aged between 1 and 8 years old
•    Weigh more than 25kg
•    Are fit and healthy, and up to date with vaccinations
•    Have never travelled abroad
•    Are not on any medication
•    Have a good, calm temperament

All dogs receive a full health check with one of Pet Blood Bank’s vets before donating 450ml of blood. The donation process takes about 5-10 minutes and is only carried out if your dog is comfortable and relaxed. All donor dogs receive a free blood test to screen their general health, an ‘I’m A Lifesaver’ bandana, and a little present from Blue House as well! If your pet isn’t already microchipped, this will also be done free of charge.

There is also plenty of tea, coffee and cake on offer for you!

For more information about the Pet Blood Bank and becoming a donor, have a look at their website or speak to us at Blue House.
